Vanderbilt Health Coaching Program

The Vanderbilt Health Coaching Program is specifically designed by field experts to set you up for Health Coaching success wherever your journey takes you! The Vanderbilt Health Coaching Program (VHCP) has two phases and runs two Cohorts each year, Spring and Fall.

Our program is designed for licensed health care professionals who desire to either practice as an independent Nationally Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC), a Nurse Coach-Board Certified (NC-BC), or to enhance a current health care role by obtaining the skills to facilitate patients to better self-manage health and optimize wellness.

Why Choose Us?

  • Our program's modified distance format is designed for working individuals, like you. This means you can participate while you continue to do all you currently do!  The majority of learning can be completed online, at whatever time is most convenient for you.  Even the bi-weekly practice calls, which include two other trainees, can be set at a mutually agreed-upon time. In addition, the group skills calls and group mentorship calls are offered in the early evening. The two 3-day intensive dates, while mandatory, occur Friday-Sunday so you can take minimal time away from work and home.

    • The total cost of the Vanderbilt Health Coaching Program is a $6400 investment. While this is competitively-priced amongst similar programs, it is high-value for the one-stop, comprehensive training you receive. Additionally, we offer group discounts and early registration discounts for those paying the full amount upfront. We also offer payment plans for individuals looking to spread the total cost over several months.

    • You will have access to Vanderbilt's wide-reaching network of past VHCP Alumnae. Learn more about past students here.

    • Did we mention that the Vanderbilt Health Coaching Program has one of the most comprehensive curriculums available? Our Curriculum covers everything from Foundational and Advanced Health Coaching Skills and Tools, Mindfulness Training, and Motivational Interviewing Skills to Behavior Change Theory, Cultural Competence, and Regulation/Scope of Practice.

    • We provide the opportunity to coach real medical patients while continuing to receive mentorship.

  • The Vanderbilt Health Coaching Program is approved by the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC).

The National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC), along with the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), offers the only national certification examination for health and wellness coaches.  As an approved program, successful completion of the Vanderbilt Health Coaching Program ensures you will meet the eligibility requirements necessary to sit for the national certification exam.
