Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

agacnp rankingIf you like the idea of handling complex patient situations involving intricate therapies in a fast-paced setting, the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program (AGACNP) is for you. As an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, you will provide care to adults, including older adults, both in the hospital and in clinics. You will provide complex monitoring, order and interpret diagnostic tests and develop complex treatment plans based on current evidence-based practice to stabilize each patient and maximize their overall health. Your focus will be to manage current and ongoing problems and prevent complications.

Our Curriculum

Working closely with your faculty, preceptors and alongside your classmates, you will develop advanced clinical and diagnostic reasoning skills, evaluate advanced therapeutic interventions and work collaboratively with health care team members. Your curriculum will provide in-depth content about pathophysiology and management of acute and criticaly ill and clinically complex patient problems. You will learn to help both the patient and their family members achieve the highest degree of wellness possible. You will come to understand the acute, critical and chronic aspects of selected diseases, so you can anticipate and manage many complex critical and acute episodic problems.

Career Opportunities

Our graduates typically work in acute care and hospital settings such as intensive care (MICU, SICU), trauma units, sub-acute care units (step down), as well as highly specialized clinics when outpatient management is appropriate.
