MSN Program for BSN Certificate-Prepared Neonatal Nurse Practitioners

A Tradition of Educating Fine Nurses

Vanderbilt University School of Nursing began in 1908 as a diploma program. In 1925, it was one of five schools funded by the Rockefeller Foundation to establish a University School of Nursing. As a leader, Vanderbilt pioneered nursing's move into an institution of higher learning.

Recognition of Previous Certificate Education and Work Experience

As a BSN Certificate Prepared Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, we respect the coursework you completed in your certificate program and your years of experience and designed a program to allow you to obtain a masters degree. Eligible credit towards the MSN degree will be determined using either a credit by exam and/or clinical validation system for six courses within the program.

If you do not already have a BSN degree, you can enter our RN-PreSpecialty Program. Once this program is completed, you can complete the MSN program to become an MSN-prepared Neonatal Nurse Practitioner.

One Calendar Year to Earn Your MSN

Students with a BSN can obtain a Master of Science degree in Nursing with specialization as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner in three semesters of part-time study. Students with an ADN can obtain a BSN equivalent in two semesters full-time, then enter the MSN program.

Flexible Format for Students Who Live at a Distance

You need not relocate or give up your job to upgrade your credentials to a Masters of Science degree in Nursing as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. Our courses are offered in a modified learning (block), including weekends, that includes 3 campus visits in Fall, 2 in Spring and 1 in Summer; online conferencing; classroom video-streaming and distributed learning methods.
