Women’s Health Nurse
Practitioner/ Adult Nurse
Practitioner (WHNP/ANP)

Dual Certification

Do you want to meet the unique health care needs of women but also deliver primary health care to men –
caring for both patient populations from adolescence through advanced years? This program prepares you for dual certification and practice in a variety of primary
care settings.

What Will You Do as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner with Clinical Certification?

With dual certification as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and Adult Nurse Practitioner, you will be prepared for delivering primary health care to both women and men. You will meet the unique health care needs of women, including reproductive-gynecologic health, while providing primary health care as well to male patients ages 12 and up.

How Will Vanderbilt Prepare You for Practice?

Curriculum from the Vanderbilt School of Nursing Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Program addresses a range of issues including normal pregnancy and prenatal management, clinical management of family planning, well woman health care and menopause. Health problems including oncology, substance abuse and violence against women are also addressed. The primary emphasis is on health maintenance of women throughout the lifespan.

The Adult Nurse Practitioner Program curriculum prepares you to assess, diagnose and manage common acute and chronic adult health problems, with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention. Students will gain an understanding of the U.S. health care delivery system.

You will be exposed to a group of professional faculty members who combine classroom instruction with hands-on clinical practice experience for a wider frame of reference in advanced practice settings. The nurse practitioner, upon graduation, collaborates with physicians and other health team members to provide care within a health care delivery system using approved protocols.
