Welcome

March 2014Mavis Schorn

Dear New Vanderbilt Graduate Student,

Congratulations on your selection to Vanderbilt University School of Nursing (VUSN)! I am delighted to have the opportunity to welcome you to the Fall 2014 class. Whether you are entering the MSN, DNP, or the post-master’s certificate program, you are embarking on a new journey in your career. Postings on our website contain critical information to assist you in making the transition to a master’s level or doctoral level nursing student. You have been selected from a very competitive pool of applicants and are entering a rigorous program.

As a Vanderbilt student, you will join a community of scholars who are committed to improving health care of society in the United States and around the world. You will establish friendships with classmates you will carry with you well after graduation, and after graduation, as alumni, you will become a member of a much larger Vanderbilt community with networks all over the country.

The August orientation is mandatory, and the dates are posted on this admitted student webpage.

Orientation will acquaint you with the curriculum, organization, policies, and procedures of VUSN and begin your new education path. Orientation also provides an opportunity to meet peers and faculty. Core sessions will be held along with informal events on these days. More details will continue to be posted on this website.

The staff in the Admissions Office is available to assist you; call them (615-322-3800) with any additional questions that you might have. For now, get ready to work hard, soak in all you can as a student, and look forward to what the next professional steps will be for you after this program.

The faculty and I look forward to meeting you in August. Best wishes for a good and restful summer!

Sincerely,

Mavis N. Schorn, PhD, CNM, FACNM
