Vanderbilt School of Nursing offers two unique specialty tracks to suit varied professional interests in nutrition and dietetics. Choose the one that’s right for you.
Nutrition Informatics
If you are interested in using information technology to advance food and nutrition-related problem solving and decision making, this track is for you.
This program builds upon Vanderbilt’s leadership in advanced nursing informatics to prepare dietitians to apply advanced technology, with applications such as:
- Incorporating the nutrition care process and model into the electronic health record
- Using novel software platforms to calculate menus, plan diets, assess dietary intake, and monitor dietary compliance
- Using web-based systems for evidence-based design of nutrition care plans and interventions
- Employing electronic social media to conduct nutrition surveys and communicate nutrition information
- Creating databases to document improved outcomes of care or obtain maximum, appropriate reimbursement for nutrition services

Nutrition Management in Health Care Systems
Choose this track if you are interested in advancing
your career by taking a leadership, management or administrative role in the process and delivery of
health care.
This program builds upon Vanderbilt’s leadership in nursing management to prepare dietitians for new roles in disease management and administration in various health care settings and systems, with potential applications such as:
- Disease case managers
- Clinic nutrition department managers
- Community and public health agency administrators
- Food service administrators
- Private practice entrepreneurs
- Continuous quality and outcomes team leaders
- Food marketing, food survey and food inspection company leaders
- Nutrition pharmaceutical
