Centennial PhD Fellowships
We are pleased to announce a new opportunity for applicants to our PhD program: The VUSN Centennial PhD Fellowships for first-year students. These highly competitive and prestigious nursing research
awards include living expenses and are renewable for one year.
This award is in addition to tuition support acquired through existing mechanisms at the School of Nursing or Graduate School.
Eligibility Criteria
- Potential for the applicant’s research area to result in a research program of national importance
- Applicant’s intellectual capacity as demonstrated by GRE scores
- A match between the applicant and a senior faculty member that would contribute to receipt of an externally funded pre-doctoral award
- Potential for contribution as a researcher in an academic setting
Expectations of Recipients
During the first year of the award period, the recipient will be expected to:
- Participate in continuous full-time enrollment
- Write a pre-doctoral award to the NIH or other appropriate funder
- Interact in mentoring opportunities with fellow recipients sponsored by the VUSN Center for Research Development and Scholarship
- Maintain an outstanding grade point average
- Participate in continuous full-time enrollment

- Maintain an outstanding grade point average.
Failure to fulfill these obligations will result in withdrawal of support. The recipient will not be expected to fulfill any teaching or research assistant tasks as a part of the fellowship but may participate in such activity with the permission of their faculty advisor.

To compete for a VUSN Centennial PhD Fellowship, you must apply by January 15

- Check ‘yes’ in the box next to the question, ‘do you wish to be considered for a financial award?’ on the application under ‘Plans for Graduate Study’
- Send your transcripts and GRE test scores
- Confirm that all the components of your application are submitted by January 15
