Sharon S. Hendrix, RN, DNP, FNP-BC



Dr. Sharon Hendrix is a clinical instructor in the pre-specialty level at VUSN, with more than twenty years’ experience as a Family Nurse Practitioner in primary care clinics in south central Kentucky.  Primarily working in manufacturing employer settings and with the public health department, she focused on reducing the incidence of obesity, hypertension and pre-diabetes through employer health fairs and motivational goal setting.  Working with UCHS/VUSN, she set up a new employer-based health clinic in Franklin, Kentucky, before becoming a full-time faculty member in 2009.  Dr. Hendrix is currently the community health co-faculty on the Heart Failure Transitional Care Team along with Dr. Melissa Smith.

  • Reducing Hospital Readmissions in Elderly Patients, particularly Heart Failure
  • The Effects of Implanted Cardiovascular Devices in Heart Failure Patients

  • Use of Reflection in Experiential Learning and Practice
