Saving a File in Word 2003 Format When You Have Office 2007

If you have Microsoft Office 2007 you should submit papers to the faculty in Office 2003.  While most of your professors have 2007 installed in their offices, many still have 2003 installed at home. They will not be able to read your papers if you save them in 2007 and if they only have 2003 at home.

There are several ways to save  a paper in 2003 format. If you want to keep the 2007 default and just save a specific paper in 2003 format, go to the Office Button at the top left and select Save As. You will see Word 97-2003 as an option. Click on that and it will save it in 2003 format. From then on, with that specific document, any changes will default to version 2003.

If, however, you want to change your Word settings so it saves to 2003 format by default without you having to remember to select  anything, click on the Office Button and select the Word Options button at the bottom of that window. Click Save and you will see what you see below. Where you see" Saves files in this format", select Word97-2003 as shown. Then click OK. From then on you will save in Word 2003 format.
